About PEX Stubouts

PEX stubouts refer to the portion of PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) tubing that extends from a wall or floor and serves as the endpoint for connecting plumbing fixtures, such as faucets, showers, or toilets.

During the construction or installation of a plumbing system, PEX tubing is often run through the walls or floors to provide water supply lines. At specific locations where plumbing fixtures will be installed, the PEX tubing is extended out, creating the PEX stubouts.

PEX stubouts can be pre-installed in new construction or retrofit installations. They are typically secured to a mounting bracket or support to keep them stable and prevent movement.

One of the key advantages of using PEX stubouts is the flexibility and ease of installation. PEX tubing is highly flexible, allowing for easier routing and maneuvering through tight spaces. The stubouts can be easily bent, curved, or angled to accommodate the desired fixture location.

To connect the plumbing fixture to the PEX stubout, various methods can be used. One common approach is to use a PEX fitting, such as a crimp or clamp fitting, that securely attaches the fixture's water supply line to the PEX stubout.

PEX stubouts offer several benefits, including:

  1. Resistance to corrosion: PEX tubing is not susceptible to corrosion, unlike metal pipes, which can degrade over time and impact water quality.

  2. Flexibility and durability: PEX tubing is highly flexible and can withstand freezing temperatures and expand/contract without causing pipe bursts.

  3. Reduced noise and water hammer: PEX tubing has excellent sound-dampening properties, reducing the noise caused by water flow and minimizing water hammer effects.

  4. Cost-effective: PEX tubing is often more affordable than traditional metal pipes and requires fewer fittings, resulting in lower installation costs.
